Mayor Romanus Ibekwe Empowers Anaocha Pupils With Over 10,000 Learning Materials, Backs Soludo’s Free Education Policy

In furtherance of the free education initiative of the Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, the Mayor of Anaocha Local Government Area, Hon. Romanus Ibekwe, has distributed over 10,000 school materials, including school bags, mathematical sets, pens, pencils, and exercise books to pupils in various public schools across Anaocha.

The distribution, which took place at the Anaocha Local Government Headquarters, Neni, attracted teachers, headmasters, and community leaders who commended the Mayor for his continuous support towards education and for aligning with the governor’s vision of transforming the education sector in Anambra State.

Speaking during the event, Hon. Ibekwe stated that the gesture was part of his administration’s effort to complement the education revolution of Governor Soludo, who has made education free in all public schools in the state.

According to him, “Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo has done wonderfully well in the education sector. His free education policy has given every child, irrespective of family background, the opportunity to go to school without hindrance. As the Mayor of Anaocha, I am proud to key into this vision, and this distribution of over 10,000 school materials is our contribution to ensure the policy succeeds in Anaocha.”

As part of the exercise, learning materials were distributed to several schools across the local government area over a three-day schedule as follows:

  • Wednesday, 29th October: Flora Azikiwe Memorial Secondary School, Neni (1,055 students); Community Secondary School, Adazi-Nnukwu (180 students); Migrant Farmers School, Neni (204 students) Total: 1,439 students.
  • Thursday, 30th October: Community Secondary School, Obeledu (1,162 students); Christ The King School, Obeledu (114 students); Okwuanyionu Memorial Primary School, Obeledu (69 students) Total: 1,345 students.
  • Friday, 31st October: Community Secondary School, Agulu (358 students); Union Secondary School, Agulu (325 students); Umuowelle Primary School, Agulu (650 students); Cyrian Ezeani Memorial MFS, Agulu (69 students) — Total: 1,402 students.

In all, over 4,000 pupils directly benefited from the exercise across nine public schools, while the distribution formed part of the Mayor’s ongoing effort to ensure every child in Anaocha has access to quality learning tools under the free education initiative.

Hon. Ibekwe also announced that the distribution exercise will continue from Tuesday, 4th November to Wednesday, 5th November 2025, covering more public schools within the local government to ensure that all pupils benefit from the program.

The Mayor further noted that his administration has remained committed to the welfare of the people of Anaocha through various developmental projects cutting across education, health, and infrastructure.

He said, “In Anaocha, we are not relenting. We have renovated several health centers, distributed over 200 pieces of medical equipment to 33 health facilities, and embarked on youth empowerment programs. These efforts are all part of our resolve to make Anaocha a model local government under the Solution Government.”

Teachers and school administrators from different communities in Anaocha described the Mayor’s gesture as timely, noting that it would go a long way in motivating pupils to take their studies seriously.

The distribution exercise ended on a cheerful note as pupils, parents, and community representatives expressed gratitude to both Governor Soludo and Mayor Ibekwe for their commitment to ensuring that education remains a top priority in Anaocha Local Government Area.
