There have been complaints about the numerous check points on the roads in the South East.

In a recent report by Daily Post, Mr. Kelechi Okoro, a driver, expressed frustration over the hardship caused by security operatives on the roads in Enugu and Anambra States. He highlighted the excessive checkpoints from Awka to Enugu, criticizing their impact on traffic flow and questioning their effectiveness in enhancing security.

This issue was further highlighted during a return trip from Awka to Enugu, where a journalist with the Daily Post encountered numerous checkpoints within a short stretch of road, raising concerns about the high number of security checks in the region.

The presence of at least 20 checkpoints along the 50-kilometer expressway has led to constant traffic congestion, with drivers compelled to navigate through multiple security stops.

While the heightened security measures can be attributed to the insecurity in the South-East, the conduct of security personnel has been criticized. Commuters shared their frustrations, citing instances where security operatives prioritize collecting money over conducting thorough checks.

The story is not unique, as incidents like the clash between Anambra State Deputy Governor, Dr. Onyekachi Ibezim, and military personnel at Amansea underscore the challenges faced by road users.

As the holiday season approaches, concerns rise about increased checkpoints affecting the free flow of traffic, with questions arising about the efficacy of these measures in addressing security challenges in the South-East.

Critics argue for alternative approaches to security, questioning whether the current emphasis on roadblocks truly serves the goal of ensuring safety without causing unnecessary inconvenience to the public.”
