The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has announced that the NIVEA Black & White Roll-On manufactured in Nigeria is safe for public use. This follows a recent investigation that found no trace of the prohibited chemical 2-(4-tert-Butylbenzyl propionaldehyde), known as BMHCA, in the locally produced product.

Last week, NAFDAC issued a safety alert regarding the NIVEA Black and White Invisible Body Deodorant after concerns were raised about the harmful chemical, which can cause skin irritation and affect reproductive health. The agency had previously warned against using the product, which was recalled in Europe due to safety concerns.

In its latest statement, NAFDAC confirmed that the Nigerian-made roll-on does not contain the banned ingredient. Beiersdorf, the manufacturer, reassured customers that the problematic batch was never marketed in Nigeria and production of the roll-on ceased in February 2022.

NAFDAC has urged traders to stop selling any recalled products and submit them for examination.
