The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has uncovered a shocking illegal drug operation in Azagba-Ogwashi, Delta State.
A couple was caught relabelling and repackaging expired medical injectables inside an uncompleted building. The injectables included banned substances like gentamicin and chloroquine phosphate, some dating back to 2018.
NAFDAC officials say the vials were soaked in chemicals to erase expiration dates, rebranded, and sent to the popular Ogbogwu Market in Onitsha for sale. The suspect’s wife is in custody while others fled the scene.
NAFDAC’s South-East Director, Dr. Martins Iluyomade, described the act as worse than terrorism, warning of the grave danger posed to public health.
Investigations are ongoing.
