The National Agency for Food Drug and Administration Control (NAFDAC) has warned Nigerians against fake coronavirus vaccines as there are reports that some are in circulation.

According to the Director-General of NAFDAC, Mojisola Adeyeye, on Friday, no drugs have been approved and any being marketed could cause serious illness, as she urged people to be sensible, and careful.

Speaking further, Mrs Mojisola posited that 10 million real doses of the vaccines are expected in late February with authorities working on multiple options, adding that fake vaccines can cause “Covid-like illnesses or other serious diseases that could kill.”

Last year, it was reported that black market coronavirus tests flourished in Nigeria because citizens were reluctant to be subjected to mandatory quarantine.

Nigeria has said it hopes to vaccinate 40% of the population in 2021.
But the challenges of transporting and storing vaccines for many millions of people remain an issue.
