The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced the interception of shipments containing ephedrine, skunk, and nitrous oxide (commonly known as laughing gas) concealed within packages of semovita and dry pepper. These shipments were destined for South Africa and Kenya via the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja, Lagos.
NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi revealed that these consignments were connected to members of Transnational Drug Trafficking Organizations (DTO). Several of these individuals were promptly apprehended, their luxurious vehicles seized, and their mansions raided.
Babafemi stated that based on reliable intelligence, NDLEA operatives, on August 25th, apprehended a well-known drug trafficker, Suleiman Babatunde Oba, who is affiliated with a cartel involved in the distribution of Cocaine, Heroin, Methamphetamine, and Ephedrine across Nigeria, Brazil, Ghana, South Africa, Mozambique, and Europe.
He further explained that Oba was arrested while attempting to board a Rwanda Air flight to South Africa, carrying two boxes containing ephedrine concealed within semovita packages. The seized substance is considered a precursor chemical and a key ingredient in the production of methamphetamine.
