Nigeria and the Gambia have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on Military Co-operations in a bid to tackle insurgency in both countries.

The Special Assistant to the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Abdulkadri, made this known in a statement on Friday in Abuja.

According to Abdulkadiri, the Minister of Defence Maj Gen Bashir Magashi and the Gambian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mohamadou Musa Njie, were signatories for both countries in the MoU that seeks to help jointly tackle the common threats of insecurity.
Noting that the MoU was timely, the representatives of the two countries pledged to operationalize the terms and conditions of the MoU.

The MoU, amongst other things seeks to boost the existing joint Military flexibility, operability as well as tactical and technical synergy between both countries. It also seeks to enhance networking in Intelligence sharing, capacity building and the need to establish robust counter trans-national strategy to decisively checkmate insecurity.

The defence minister, noting that Nigeria has been playing brotherly roles to the Republic of the Gambia, expressed optimism about the newly signed memo to help curb the shared problem of insecurity.
