Dr. Temitope Ilori, Director-General of the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA), has announced plans to begin local production of HIV test kits and anti-retroviral drugs by late 2025.
Speaking in Ilorin during the launch of Kwara’s PMTCT and Paediatrics ART Acceleration Committee, Ilori highlighted the government’s commitment to ending AIDS as a public health threat by 2030.
She revealed that current paediatric HIV coverage remains below 33%, far from the 95% target, with over 140,000 children living with HIV in Nigeria.
NACA’s strategy includes integrating HIV services into the national health system, strengthening advocacy, and ensuring sustainable funding to reduce reliance on donor support.
Kwara’s Deputy Governor pledged the state’s full cooperation to eliminate mother-to-child HIV transmission.
