The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), has condemned plans by the Niger State Government to shut down privately owned Badeggi FM 90.1 in Minna.

NUJ President Alhassan Abdullahi, in a Sunday statement, called it an “assault on press freedom.”

The union reminded state authorities that only the National Broadcasting Commission can legally regulate or sanction broadcast stations.

It also warned that silencing the press threatens democracy itself and called on civil society and citizens to resist any form of executive overreach aimed at gagging the media.
