The Nigerian Red Cross Society, Anambra State, in partnership with the International Committee of Red Cross and Red Crescent, ICRC, on Friday 22nd October 2021 organized a one-day workshop on Health Care in Danger for Journalists and Hospital M & E personnel in Anambra State.
Speaking on the occasion, the Anambra State Health Officer of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Mrs Constancia Amagba, explained that
Health Care in Danger bothers on issues that have to do with disruption in Health Care Delivery as a result of violence and crises affecting Health Care Personnel and Health Care facilities.
According to her, these include obstruction and attack of Health care vehicles, destruction of health care facilities, attack on health care personnel as a result of crises, violence, agitations and other activities that may pose danger to free delivery of health care.
Amagba noted that when there is disruption in health care delivery, it is the patient that bears the consequences.
Addressing the press shortly after the workshop, the State Communication Officer, Nigerian Red Cross, Mr Fidelis Ikeji, described the workshop as timely in of the security situation in the nation.
Mr Ikeji added that the workshop would help educate and sensitize the general public on the need to always guard and protect the health care system.
He also spoke on the need to ensure that there is always availability of health care services in all situations.
He further reiterated that the reason to organize the workshop for Journalists and Hospital M & E was to ensure proper dissemination of the objectives of the workshop and accurate data collection of HCID cases.
He said, “When you destroy health facility, attack health care personnel, obstruct health care vehicles, refuse assistance to casualties and people in need of health care, you are contributing to Health Care in Danger”.
Also speaking, the State Executive Secretary Engineer Kingsley Okoye, admonished journalists to join Red Cross in sharing the messages on Health Care in Danger in local communities.
In his submission, the Head, Action Team Leader, Aguata Coucil Area, Jeremiah Okoli, stressed the need for people including workers, to carry along their ID cards in case of emergency and appealed to journalists to help spread the the message and enlighten the public on the need to carry along their ID cards for identification when the need arises.
The event which took place at the State Headquarters of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Amawbia, had in attendance, Journalists, Hospital M & E representatives and members of the Nigerian Red Cross Society from all the Local Governments in Anambra State.
