The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is facing backlash for concealing the identity of the owner of a massive forfeited estate in Abuja. The property, spanning over 150,500 square meters with 753 units of apartments and duplexes, is the EFCC’s largest recovery since its inception in 2003.
Nigerians on social media criticized the agency, calling its actions hypocritical. Legal experts and public commentators have demanded transparency, arguing that withholding such information undermines trust in the system. Speculations have also surfaced, with some alleging the property may belong to a former high-ranking government official.
The EFCC, however, remains silent on the matter, promising a press statement soon. Critics argue that without full disclosure, public confidence in the fight against corruption could erode further.
