In a major boost for the Nigerian economy, capital importation surged to $5.64 billion in the first quarter of 2025, marking a 67% rise compared to the same period in 2024.
The National Bureau of Statistics attributes this jump primarily to portfolio investments, which accounted for over 92% of the inflows. The banking sector led the way, attracting more than half of the total capital, while the UK was the top source of foreign investment.
Abuja and Lagos topped the list of investment destinations, jointly accounting for over 99% of total inflows.
Standard Chartered Bank emerged as the biggest receiver, with $2.1 billion in capital importation.
