NMA Anambra Extends Hands Of fellowship To Govt. Owned Orphanage In Awka

The Nigerian Medical Association, Anambra State, is seeking partnership with state government owned Community Children’s Home in Awka, to assist the inmates achieve better life.
The gesture was part of the association’s annual Physicians Week programme aimed at affording medical practitioners the opportunity to reach out to the poorest of the poor in society.
The Awka Zone of the association commenced its physicians week with visits to some aged members of the association, and also embarked on visits to two orphanage homes in Awka, where they presented gift items which include rice, carton of Indomie, biscuits and tissue paper.
The group was led by the State Chairman of the association, Dr. Jane Ezeonu.
At the Community Children’s Home, Real Estate Ifite Awka, Dr. Ezeonu, a Public Health consultant and Community Medicine physician, spoke of the commitment of the zone towards partnering with the state government owned orphanage.
According to her, the association has pediatricians who are willing to offer humanitarian services to the inmates of the Home.
The medical expert explained that their visit was part of the activities lined up by the association to actualize its physicians week programme.
On his part, the Awka Zonal Chairman of the association, Dr. Emma Umenweke, pledged the support of the association towards partnering with the orphanage to offer them lifeline.
Dr. Umenweke announced that the group also visited the Faith Hospital Community Children’s Orphanage at UNIZIK Temporary Site, Awka, to assist the inmates with gift items.
The Chairman, 2022 Physicians week for NMA Awka Zone, Dr. Dim Basil, noted that the visit of the group was anchored on reaching out to the inmates with gift items that will improve their welfare.
In appreciation, the Orphanage home coordinator, Mrs. Precious Asiegbunam, listed the challenges facing the Home to include posting of experienced nurses, assigning of a medical doctor to periodically visit the inmates and inadequate food supply.
According to Mrs. Asiegbunam, the home will welcome cash donations, baby milk and other forms of assistance from public spirited individuals and organizations.
The Community Children’s Home, Real Estate, Awka, has a total of 75 inmates.
