As the atmosphere builds up for the 2023 presidential elections, former President Olusegun Obasanjo has closed up on any chance of returning to partisan politics, maintaining that no amount of persuasion would drag him into partisan politics.

He made his stand known on Saturday when members of the National working committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, led by the National chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, paid him a courtesy visit in Abeokuta.

Speaking to newsmen after the meeting, Obasanjo said that since his retirement 14 years ago, he has not withheld his commitment and welfare to all Nigerians. He also said that PDP as a party will remain part of his history but he ceased to be a member of the party on the day his ward decided to tear his PDP card and have since remained without a party, becoming a statesman in Nigeria, in West Africa and in the world.

He said he has long since retired and will remain retired from partisan politics for the rest of his life. However, he maintained that he will be committed to the best of Nigeria and Nigerians and Africa too.

He prayed to God to give Iyorcha the grace to carry the burden and weight of the party responsibly.
