Presidential candidates Peter Obi of the Labour Party and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have commended the release of the students from Lea Primary and Government Secondary School Kuriga in Kaduna State.
Gunmen abducted 287 schoolchildren on March 7, sparking widespread condemnation. Both Obi and Atiku praised the security agencies and individuals involved in securing the students’ safe return two weeks later.
Peter Obi expressed relief at the children’s release, urging the Federal Government to prioritize the release of all Nigerians held captive by kidnappers and to address the pervasive insecurity in the country.
Atiku emphasized the need for a comprehensive overhaul of the nation’s security framework in response to escalating security challenges. He advocated for strengthening initiatives like the Safe School Initiative to safeguard vulnerable schools from mass abductions.
Both candidates highlighted the importance of fostering hope for a secure and stable Nigeria amidst prevailing uncertainties, emphasizing the potential for a brighter future marked by enhanced security measures and protection for all citizens.
