The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) is stepping up efforts to improve train turnaround time, enhance cargo movement, and curb vandalism across its Western District.

District Manager Angelique Ikwuka revealed this during an interview in Ibadan, highlighting the ongoing use of both standard and narrow gauge lines across five states. She noted the success of the standard gauge in handling large passenger volumes and the introduction of e-ticketing in November 2023, which has significantly reduced queues.

The NRC is also engaging industries to embrace rail freight and is targeting a 90-minute Lagos–Ibadan travel time. Ikwuka decried ongoing vandalism and urged communities to safeguard rail infrastructure. Plans to extend standard gauge service to Ilorin are also underway.
