
The State Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Anambra State Command, Commandant. Everestus C Obiyo, has called on Nigerians to support the Corps in its vital role in safeguarding citizens from either natural or man-made disasters by educating them on how to defend themselves with knowledge of preparedness, avoidance,and self- protection.

Mr. Obiyo made this call while addressing officers and men of the Corps at the State Command Headquarters, Awka on Tuesday 1st March , 2022 on the occasion of 2022 World Civil Defence Day Celebration with the theme “Civil Defence and Management of Displaced Populations in the Face of Disasters and Crises; Role of Volunteers and the Fight Against Pandemics “.
Delivering the message, the state commandant stated that the World Civil Defence Day is celebrated to highlight the significant role played by the Civil Defence personnel in maintaining the security of human life from the risks associated with humans or natural disasters and the role played by the civil defence officers and men in the protection of life and property.
According to him, the ICDO invites Civil Defence actors to focus on involvement of Volunteers in prevention of the displacement of people, and in providing care to Internally Displaced Persons and Refugees in a context of pandemic and weakening of the economic fabric. He said that ICDO is calling on International Community to strengthen national legislation for the development and sustainability of Volunteerism for communities that are more resilient to risk of disaster.
He also stated that the Corps also seeks to promote cooperation and communication with various community, organizations and individuals who devote great efforts in support of civil defence in spreading awareness and safety since it is a shared responsibility of everyone in order to achieve safety and protection of life and property.
