Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC , has vowed to arrest filling station owners who are taking unnecessary advantage of the artificial scarcity of Premium Motor Spirit, otherwise known as Petrol or fuel, to increase the price of the product , thereby worsening the current situation in the state.
The State Commandant, Everistus Obiyo made this known on Tuesday, 22nd February , following his observation that most filling stations sold fuel above recommended fuel price.
In a statement made available by the Public Relations Officer, DSC Okadigbo Edwin, Commandant Obiyo tasked members of the public to report activities of errant marketers to the agency , stressing the readiness of NSCDC to ensure filling stations sell at approved government price.
He said the command has also deployed Anti Vandalism squad to filling stations to maintain orderliness and ensure they comply with government directives.
In a related development, the Anti Vandalism Squad of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has paid visits to filling stations in Awka to ascertain their level of adherence to government’s directives.
The team, which was led by Head of the Squad, Dennis Reuben, monitored the sale of the commodity at approved price, while cautioning them against hiking the price and ensured the product wasn’t hoarded.
According to Dennis Reuben, some of the filling stations sold at high prices and were also shortchanging customers through under- dispensing and product hoarding .
He said it was also shocking to realize some filling stations still chose to sabotage the government and inflict pains on consumers.
He also warned those selling above regulated pump price to desist from doing so or face the wrath of the law.
