The National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (Federal Health Institutions Sector) has denied reports that it has suspended its ongoing seven-day warning strike.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, the union’s Public Relations Officer, Omomo Tibiebi, confirmed the strike, which began Wednesday, is still in effect. He dismissed claims by Health Minister Prof. Muhammad Pate that the strike had been called off, stating, that He wasn’t the one who declared the strike, so he cannot suspend it.

The nurses are demanding better shift and uniform allowances, a separate salary structure, increased duty allowances, and mass recruitment.

A union meeting is scheduled for today to decide the next steps as hospitals nationwide continue to suffer disruptions.
