The management of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun state has ordered the closure of the school, directed students to vacate hostels and also suspended the swearing-in of newly elected officials of the Students’ Union Government (SUG) following protest by the students over the death of their colleague.

According to reports, the protest was caused by the death of a 24-year-old student, Adesina Aisat who reportedly died due to the negligence of the school’s health centre workers.

However, in a press release by the Public Relations Officer of the University, Abiodun Olarewaju, the school Management, while sympathizing with the family and students over the death, condemned the uncontrolled protest it described as detrimental to the safety of the community, which also led to the blocking the Ife/Ibadan and Ife/Ede highways and other adjoining roads that could be used as alternative routes; actions that prompted the school to taking drastic measures.
