The President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Senator John Azuta-Mbata, has appealed to the Federal Government to release detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, so he can access proper medical treatment.

In a video message shared on Thursday, Senator Azuta-Mbata argued that the government has no advantage in Kanu’s continued detention and urged authorities to consider a political solution to the matter.

He also called on Igbos across Nigeria to take part in the ongoing voter registration exercise and ensure they obtain their voter cards.

Nnamdi Kanu, first arrested in 2015 on charges of treasonable felony, fled the country in 2017 after jumping bail. He was rearrested in Kenya in 2021 in a controversial operation and has since been held in DSS custody.

Senator Azuta-Mbata insists that releasing Kanu will safeguard his health and help douse political tensions.
