On The Foreign Scene
The United Nations is warning of imminent starvation in El-Fasher, Sudan—where over 300,000 people are trapped under siege by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces.
The city, the Sudanese army’s last stronghold in Darfur, has been cut off from aid for more than a year. The World Food Programme says people are already dying from hunger, with children severely malnourished.
Residents are reportedly eating animal fodder and waste to survive. A humanitarian ceasefire has been proposed to allow aid delivery, but only the army has agreed so far. The rainy season could further block access, worsening what the UN says is a looming famine.
