On Foreign News,

In a bid to address the growing political crisis in Senegal, the foreign ministry of former colonial power Paris has urged Senegalese authorities to end the uncertainty surrounding President Macky Sall’s recent announcement of an indefinite postponement of the scheduled February 25 election.

The call for clarity on the electoral calendar comes as opposition presidential candidates called for a Sunday afternoon demonstration in Dakar, defying the official postponement and launching their campaigns despite the current political uproar.

Senegal, historically viewed as a beacon of democratic stability in West Africa, faces growing concerns as it struggles with a political crisis.

Both Washington and the West African bloc ECOWAS have expressed their unease and called for a swift rescheduling of the election following President Sall’s announcement.

President Sall cited a conflict between the Constitutional Council and parliament regarding the approval of presidential candidacies as the reason behind the election suspension.

Meanwhile, Critics, however, suspect that the president’s camp may fear the potential defeat of his chosen successor, Prime Minister Amadou Ba.
