The Executive Secretary, Anambra State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr Chioma Ezenyimulu, parents, guardians and caregivers to take the immunization exercise seriously so as to achieve the set objectives.
Dr Ezenyimulu made the appeal at a one day sensitization workshop on yellow fever and Menningitis, organized for stakeholders, by the agency.
She disclosed that the immunization for this quarter will kick-start on Friday, 23rd October, to last till 1st November, 2020, explaining that the venues are public health facilities and designated places in every ward, between 7am and 2pm each day.
Dr Ezenyimulu also advised them to be orderly as they approach the Vaccination posts, and to keep their vaccination cards safe because they may still need them in future.
The State Executive Secretary, of Primary Healthcare Development Agency stressed the need for all to continue to assist in preventing the spread of Coronavirus by adhering to stipulated directives including keeping their environment clean and well ventilated among other safety guidelines.
Contributing, the State Health Educator, Mrs uju Onwuegbusi, reminded participants that yellow fever vaccine is free, safe and saves lives and emphasised on the need for them to remember their children’s routine immunization before the age of 2, at health facilities near them and the need to keep their children’s immunization cards safe
A resource person, Mr Adeyinka Adeosun, educated the participants on Communication For Development, explaining that yellow fever is a disease caused by a virus that is spread to humans through bites of infected mosquitoes, listing the symptoms to include sudden fever or chill , severe headache, backpain, muscle pain, among others.
Mr Adeosun also warned that Menningitis is a dangerous infectious disease that can affect the covering of the brain and spinal cord, while the symptoms include high fever, vomiting, lack of appetite and severe headaches among others.
The traditional rulers of Ukwalla in Anambra East Council Area, Igwe Joseph Ajodo, and his Enugwu Umuonyia counterpart, Igwe PN Ezeamama, urged Parents, caregivers and other stakeholders to ensure that eligible children and adults from ages 9 months to 44 years visit health centres and vaccination posts to be immunized against yellow fever and meningitis. .
They commended the organizers and support groups for having the interest of Ndi Anambra at heart, and also Governor Willie Obiano for Championing provision of quality healthcare for the citizens, calling on other traditional rulers to help persuade their subjects to visit health facilities nearest to them to be immunized.
According to them, traditional rulers should help to educate parents, caregivers and other eligible persons that the immunization is safe and free of cost and as well will offer them long immunity.
The Royal fathers also promised to use local means of communication like public address system and town criers to send the message across in their communities and educate their people on the importance of vaccination.
