End of political crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) seems not in sight as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, a key figure in the party, denied knowledge of any planned convention in Ibadan, Oyo State. PDP membership driveThe PDP had on Monday announced the setting up of a 110-member organising committee to oversee the 2025 elective national convention fixed for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan. PDP membership driveThe committee, chaired by Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, includes several PDP governors, former governors, and top party leaders. However, Wike’s name was absent from the list. The PDP, in a statement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, explained that the committee is mandated to ensure proper preparations for the exercise, which is expected to allocate key National Working Committee positions across the geopolitical zones. However, in a chat with the media on Tuesday, Wike dismissed the move, insisting that he had not been informed of any convention.“Have they given a date for Ibadan? When did NEC agree on that? As a member, I’ve not been told. Nobody has invited me to a NEC meeting for me to say that NEC has sat,” Wike said. The Minister argued that what was announced could not be described as a valid decision of the National Executive Committee.“Those few people who say they have held a NEC meeting, let it be on record—that is not NEC. In fact, we are meeting tomorrow to challenge it,” Wike declared.
