
In Rivers State, Governor Nyesom Wike has honoured a physically challenged graduate of The Rivers State University with 50 million naira and automatic employment as a lecturer for bagging a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree.
The recipient, Dr James Daniels got the appointment on Saturday on the occasion of the 33rd convocation of the Rivers State University in Port Harcourt.

Governor Wike said that Daniel was honoured in recognition of his academic excellence and also for being a source of inspiration to persons living with disabilities.
Governor Wike also used the opportunity to caution the state-owned universities to desist from indiscriminately conferring doctoral degrees on persons with questionable character and people of material influence but should jealousy guard their reputation and awards.
He said that only students who have gone through years of intense intellectual research and provide sound dissertations aiding new learning should be awarded doctorate degrees.
