The Anambra State Police Command has rescued Reverend Father Stephen Echezona, who was abducted at a petrol station in Ichida, Anaocha Local Government Area.
Gunmen operating in a white Lexus SUV without a plate number attacked the priest, taking him away in his own vehicle. However, a joint security team including the police, military, NSCDC, and vigilante groups responded swiftly.
Police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga, in a Sunday statement, said a coordinated chase forced the kidnappers to abandon the priest in Ihiala and flee.
Security forces have secured the scene and are working to recover the priest’s Toyota Highlander and apprehend the suspects. Investigations are ongoing, with further updates expected.
