Police In Bauchi Arrest Farmer Over Alleged Murder Of Casual Workers For Rituals
Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 40 year old farmer, Ibrahim Umar, for allegedly killing two people in Taranka village of Gamawa Local Government Area of Bauchi State for ritual purposes.
The arrest followed a report lodged with the Gamawa Divisional Police headquarters on September 10, 2023 at about 0958hrs by one Adamu Mohammed aged 57 years of Taranka village, during which he reported that about one month ago, one Kabiru Ìdí aged 36 and Bato Ali aged 18 both of the same address were missing.
Mohammed reported that one Ibrahim Umar aged 40, of Dankunkuru village, Ungogo LGA Kano State, who came to the said Taranka village for charcoal business was suspected to have perfected the abduction and disappearance of the missing persons.
The reports were contained in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), of the Bauchi Command, SP Ahmed Wakili, and made available to Journalists on Tuesday.
Wakili said that on receipt of the report, a team of detectives were quickly drafted to the scene and eventually arrested the suspect.
The Police PRO said that during interrogation, the suspect confessed to have killed and buried the two casual workers in a shallow grave around the outskirts of the town.
Wikili said that consequently, the requisite coroner’s form was filled and the bodies were exhumed from the said grave for discreet investigation, adding that the bodies were established to be those of the missing persons and are certified dead by a medical practitioner at the hospital.
SP Wakili intimated that thereafter, the Command handed over the corpses to the relatives of the deceased for burial according to their respective religious rites.
The police further said that investigation revealed that the accused killed the two persons in a bid to make ritual money out of their dead bodies.
“The statement further said; “During search at the suspect’s residence, one rubber gallon containing liquid substances suspected to be Human blood was recovered from the accused residence. Investigation is still in progress to uncover the mystery behind the accused cruel act”.
The Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, CP Auwal Musa Muhammad, condemned the ruthless and gruesome killing of the two innocent people, and described the act as ferocious and inimical to the law governing the country.
He warned citizens against such acts, stressing that such would not be tolerated under his stewardship and assured of his commitment towards ensuring that justice takes its course in the matter.
The Command stressed the need for parents and guardians to maintain strict vigilance on the activities of their wards, adding that it is pertinent more than ever before that the whereabouts of wards and the company they keep are constantly kept in check by all those responsible.
