Ochanja Market Onitsha and its environs stood still as the state government embarked on massive desilting of drainage channels along various roads and streets within the area.
The official flag-off of the exercise attracted top government functionaries as well as Chief Erokwu, who represented Igwe Alfred Achebe of Onitsha, among others.
The state’s Deputy Governor, Dr Onyekachi Ibezim, accompanied by the state Commissioner for Information, Honourable Paul Nwosu and the Transition Committee Chairman, Onitsha South Council Area, Honourable Emeka Orji among others, visited various roads and streets where the exercise was ongoing.
They visited Iweka Road, Ziks Avenue, Creek Road Fegge and Nwangene River by Bida Road among others.
Expressing satisfaction at the rate of work done so far on these channels, Deputy Governor Ibezim called for collective efforts of all stakeholders in the state to ensure clean, green and sustainable Anambra State.
