A 7-year-old girl, Rukayya Muhammad, has lost her eyesight permanently after her elder brother, Auwalu Muhammad, allegedly removed her both eyes in a suspected money ritual attempt in Wailo town, Ganjuwa LGA of Bauchi State.

Narrating how it happened, their father said the boy, Auwalu, lured his younger sister into a nearby bush, where he brutally attacked her and plucked out her two eyes.

The victim, Rukayya, was immediately rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi, for emergency medical attention, but doctors said the harm was irreversible.

An eye specialist at the hospital, Dr. Shahir Umar Bello, confirmed that the girl has permanently lost her sight and will never regain her vision.

However, authorities are yet to give official details on the suspect’s arrest or motive, but residents of the community who had remained in shock following the incident, have called for justice and stronger action against ritual-related crimes.
