On Wednesday 21st April, 2021 at about 8:30am, Save and Secure the Child Initiative (SACI), a Non Governmental Organization that Campaigns Against Child Abuse in Nigeria, effected the arrest of a middle –aged woman over a case of child battering.

The woman was alleged to have been using various draconian means of punishment against her house-help, a child of about 14 years.

According to the report reaching our news desk, These measures included flogging her with Electric cable at random such that all over her body has multiple wounds; it also included asking her to carry hot cooking tripod loaded with blocks, waking her up in the middle of the night to punish her for an offence she allegedly committed during the day.

The NGO, Save and Secure the Child Initiative considered all these offensive and inimical to the overall development of the child or any child, which necessitated the woman’s arrest.

Following her arrest by the Police and subsequent chiding by members of the Save and Secure the Child Initiative and the Divisional Police Officer of Central Police Station, Awka, the woman became sober, confirmed the allegation as testified by the child.

And as a result, on Friday 23rd April, 2021, the woman was made to sign an Undertaken before the NGO and the Police with the child’s father as a witness.
