It has been reported that since November 2022, thousands of Iranian students, mostly girls, have been attacked with toxic gas in schools in cities like Qom and Tehran, with at least one girl allegedly dying as a result.
According to human rights activists , the poisonous attacks have been deliberately carried out by hardline religious groups opposed to girls’ education in an attempt to force schools to shut.
On Friday, the United Nations backed a call from Germany calling for a transparent investigation into the reported poisoning of schoolgirls in Iran.
Over the weekend, the country’s health minister said that girls in different schools across the Islamic republic have suffered mild poison attacks in recent months.
German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said girls must be able to go to school without fear as it is nothing less than their human rights.
At least 830 students had been victims of the poisonous attacks.
