Scores Trapped As Two-storey Building Collapse In Abuja
A section of a two storey residential building on Saturday morning collapsed in Abuja with several people trapped in the rubble.
It was gathered that the building located beside the popular Cupid Hotel on Cupid Road (Sultan Dasuki Way) in Kubwa, was formerly a hotel, Al-Hilal.
It was later converted to a hospital, and later to residential apartment when the hospital owners left.
While emergency responders and security personnel rushed to the scene but rescue efforts were however hampered as the cranes needed for the rescue were yet to arrive as at 8:45am, nearly two hours after the incident.
It was gathered that two persons were rushed to a nearby hospital, while a few others escaped on their own.
One of the escapees said when she woke up around 7am and came out of the house, she began hearing some cracks and ran out.
Security operatives later moved to the scene to avert further breakdown of law and order.
They were seen assisting other medical workers in the rescue mission.
