Security agencies in Ebonyi state have been told to defend themselves against armed bandits and attackers who destroy their facilities.

Governor David Umahi made this known on Friday in Abakaliki when he received the Deputy Inspector General of Police(DIG) in charge of South East zone, Joseph Egbunike in his office.

The Governor said that if a youth has the courage to attack a security agent with a gun, such a security agent should shoot to defend himself if he can.

Reiterating his support for The Operation Restore Peace in the South East, the governor said that official security men killed were humans too and peoples’ relatives .

Governor Umahi lamented the shortage of Police personnel in the state and requested for more police officers in the state , while assuring that everything possible will be done to accommodate them.

In his speech, DIG Egbunike expressed gratitude to the governor for his reception while stating that he was in the state to oversee the activities of his men as concerns Operation Restore Peace in the state.

He charged citizens of the state to cooperate with the Police to solve the prevailing security challenges in the zone and country as he also said that the challenging days in the county would soon be over.

It will be recalled that lately, security officials have been the targets of deadly attacks in the South East .
