Tanker Driver Crushed By Falling Tree In Cross River

A Tanker driver was crushed to death when a tree fell on his parked vehicle at about 11:40 pm on Thursday night along the Murtala Mohammed Highway in Calabar, Cross River State.

Narrating the incident, the conductor of the truck said that the articulated vehicle had been loaded and the driver awaiting his turn for clearance when he fell asleep.

The eyewitness said he heard the thud of the falling tree but that before he could wake the driver, the tree had already fallen on the vehicle, killing the driver.

He called on the government to help protect their lives and those of others by removing old trees across the state.

Officials of the Ministry of Environment in the State, while reacting to the incident, said the state government is working towards bringing down all old trees across the state, especially to avoid a repeat of such ugly incident.
