Three-storey Building Under Construction Collapses In Awka

A two-storey building under construction on Wednesday evening, collapsed in Awka, the capital of Anambra State.
The building located the Diamond Pizza, along the Enugu-Onitsha expressway, was at the roofing stage when it collapsed.
It is however not clear the casualty figure as at the time of filing this report, but some eyewitnesses said some artisans who were engaged in the construction work may have been trapped.
Volunteers were seen making efforts to see if there were people trapped under the rubbles that could be rescued.
Officials of the Awka Capital Territory Development Authority, ACTDA, who visited the scene of the incident could not immediately ascertain the cause of the building collapse but suspected that weak concrete could be one of the reasons.
