President Bola Tinubu has approved a major cut in the cost of kidney dialysis at federal hospitals, reducing the fee from 50,000 naira to 12,000 naira per session.

Presidential aide Daniel Bwala announced the development on Monday, saying the subsidy is already in effect at major medical centres across all six geopolitical zones, including the University College Hospital Ibadan, Lagos University Teaching Hospital, and the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.

Bwala added that more facilities will be included before year-end to widen access for patients battling kidney diseases.

The presidency recalled that Tinubu also recently approved free caesarean sections for pregnant women, moves it says are part of the Renewed Hope Agenda to ensure cost is not a barrier to healthcare.
