Two Nigerians have been arrested in the United State for wire fraud and other offences involving 25 thousand dollars in unemployment benefits.
According to reports, Olushola Afolabi and Adewole Olugbeminiyi Aderibigbe have been accused of conniving with others to defraud the Illinois Department of Employment Security and the United States government through fraudulent unemployment insurance claims using stolen or fraudulent identities.
The US government said that the duo used falsely obtained Green Dot cards loaded with fraudulently obtained state and federal unemployment insurance funds to purchase money orders or withdraw cash at Walmart locations in the Northern District of Alabama and elsewhere.
If found guilty, Olushola and Adewole will forfeit to the United States any and all property constituting, or derived from proceeds obtained as a result of the commission of said offences.
They have both pleaded guilty and would be tried before a district judge at a given time.
They were both granted bail after the July 27 proceedings, to the tune of 5,000 dollars and Defence lawyers were also appointed to them.
Their arrest is one of the many cases of Nigerians linked to Internet fraud in the United States.
