The United States has officially reduced visa validity for Nigerians, from five-year multiple entries to just three-month single-entry visas.
According to presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, the U.S. cited two key reasons: the high rate of visa overstays by Nigerians, and the need for better access to applicant records.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has responded by directing all federal agencies to fully comply with international obligations and improve identity verification for Nigerians seeking visas abroad.
Meanwhile, the U.S. clarified this move is part of a global review process. Despite the change, Nigeria will continue issuing five-year visas to American applicants.
