The traditional ruler of Umuawulu, Igwe Joel Egwuonwu, has called on government authorities in Nigeria to give more attention to protection of children for a more viable and secure future.
Igwe Egwuonwu in a statement on this year’s Children’s Day being celebrated today, advised that emphasis should be placed on the protection of Children’s Rights as well as and their personal safety especially in the light of the current unprecedented high level of insecurity in the country.
The royal father urged the federal government to intensify drives towards curbing the high rate of child kidnapping in schools and other related vices which abound in some parts of the country.
He expects that children are brought up in atmosphere of peace, tranquility, and orderliness for better society.
Concerned about the disturbing high level of cultism in society, the traditional ruler advised parents to intensify surveillance on the activities of their children at home, while schools proprietors and teachers should ensure effective monitoring of students and pupils in their custody.
He lamented that cultism has expanded its base among keke riders, okada riders, etc and largely supported by over 70% of some influential people in.positions of authorities.
He congratulated the children on their day and hoped that they will grow to be responsible, dependable, and prosperous.
It will be recalled that the United Nations set aside the 27th day of May annually to celebrate the gift of children globally.
