The United Nations Children’s Fund says 3.5 million children in Nigeria are suffering from severe acute malnutrition.
Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday, UNICEF’s Chief of Field Operations, Judith Leveille, warned that 400,000 children could die in just over a month if urgent action is not taken.
She described the situation as dire, with stabilisation centres overstretched and a looming shortage of life-saving nutrition supplies by September.
Leveille called for more funding, skilled health workers, and essential medicines, while the Nigeria INGO Forum warned that donor support is dwindling, worsening the crisis in the North.
