Babcock University in Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State, has raised concerns over its high electricity bills.
Vice-Chancellor Ademola Tayo revealed on Sunday that the university paid N300 million for electricity in May after a tariff increase by the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC).
Speaking at the university’s convocation ceremony, Tayo urged the government to review the electricity tariffs for educational institutions, highlighting the financial strain amid Nigeria’s soaring inflation.
He emphasized the importance of maintaining educational quality while keeping costs affordable for students. Other universities, including the College of Medicine of the University of Lagos, have reported similar issues.
