The United States Mission in Nigeria has announced $27 million in humanitarian aid for Nigeria as part of a larger $536 million package for sub-Saharan Africa.
The U.S. Embassy stated that this funding aims to provide life-saving assistance and protection to vulnerable populations across the continent.
U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, Richard Mills, highlighted the significance of the aid, emphasizing its impact on those most in need.
The comprehensive package, unveiled by Under Secretary Uzra Zeya, brings total U.S. humanitarian assistance to the region for fiscal year 2024 to nearly $3.7 billion.
This aid will address critical needs, including those of refugees, internally displaced persons, and other conflict-affected individuals, focusing on crises in the Sahel and beyond. Mills affirmed the U.S.’s commitment to supporting Nigeria in tackling humanitarian challenges and building resilience against food insecurity and climate change.
