Managing Director, Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA), Ven. Amaechi Okwuosa has directed developers in the state to desist from erecting structures without submitting their building plans through the Authority.
He warned that those who fail to abide by the directive risk their structures being demolished.
Ven. Okwuosa issued this warning while speaking to newsmen in Awka during the demolition of some illegal structures erected on waterways and access roads which were marked for demolition.

Ven. Okwuosa revealed that it is the duty of ACTDA to build a cosmopolitan Awka with excellent infrastructures As the city is now a preferred investment destination in Africa.
He affirmed that The authority cannot achieve this aim without carrying out building control as Our Federal Laws entails that structures that are close to waterways should have a certain set back as blocking the way will lead to a catastrophic outcome at any given time.
Okwuosa then urged people of the state to obey the mapped setbacks for building on waterways, under high tension cables and motorways as anybody found wanting in those areas would be made to face the full force of the law.

A resident of the area, Mr Jude Nwofor praised the efforts of the state Government in ensuring that the blocked access roads would be re-opened.

Mr Moses Akunekwu, who owns a structure in the area, said that the re-opened road network would mark up prices of properties in the area.

Men of the Nigerian Army, the Civil Defence Corps, the Police and Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (Ocha Brigade) made sure to provide security during the demolition exercise.
