Penultimate Saturday 16th October was the D-Day that Dr. Chidozie Nwankwo of African Action Congress (AAC) flagged off his gubernatorial election campaign at Finotel Hotel Field in Awka, Anambra State. The venue was symbolic given its proximity to the seat of government at Agu Awka.
As early as 8am, the venue was already filled with real and true party faithfuls and Dr. Chido’s supporters from within and outside the state. The atmosphere was electrifying with joyful guests dancing to the blaring music and adorning uniforms and apparels announcing their roots. The peaceful atmosphere spoke volumes about the man of the moment and expectations of beholding the handsome man of the moment face to face was heart beating. The people waited patiently and orderly because they were the real people.
His entrance into the arena charged the atmosphere with screaming of Overdose renting the air while party supporters and onlookers that thronged the venue could not hold back their tears in joyful ecstasy. The crowd was overwhelming but the committed security personnel were up to the task of controlling the surge.
And then the much awaited time arrived as the indefatigable and intimidatingly framed Director-General of Dr. Chidozie Nwankwo Campaign Organization (CNCO) ushered him to the podium. His charming appearance and charisma further illuminated the scene with deafening shouts of Overdose! Overdose!! Overdose!!! growing more than the volume of the public address system.
Dr. Chidozie Nwankwo thanked his party and campaign management teams, supporters and everyone while expressing surprise at the amazing crowd as he was made to understand it was just a few representatives of the campaign structures at the grassroots and not an elaborate campaign.
He went on to lament that lack of good governance and credible leadership, godfatherism and greed has denied Anambra State its rightful place in the comity of states. Dr. Nwankwo wondered why Anambra state is so backward given that her people are in the forefront of developing Nigeria. He promised a fresh air in Anambra when elected by using his contacts and connections to attract direct foreign investments for infrastructural advancement towards job creation. He further spoke on Women empowerment, industrial parks, youth empowerment and Security.
He enjoined members to reach out to every part of the state, engage in door to door campaign, preach about AAC logo of the Hand of God and remain hopeful because come November 6, victory songs shall take over the atmosphere. He assured them that Agu Awka will witness a brand new leadership that will be the pride of Ndi Anambra and where other states will come to understudy.
At the end of the program, attendees happily left the venue satisfied and devoid of usual rancorous rally atmosphere characterized by bullies over sharing of money and food. It was indeed the real, undiluted crowd and not rented crowd. They came and assuredly heard from the horses mouth as Almighty God provided the beautiful ambience and weather that depicted the Hands of God which is the AAC logo.
A New Anambra under Dr. Chidozie Nwankwo is truly possible.
