Nigeria has retained the World Health Organisation’s Maturity Level 3 status for medicines and vaccines regulation, reaffirming its leadership in Africa’s pharmaceutical oversight.

NAFDAC Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, announced the milestone, confirmed by WHO on June 30 after a rigorous re-benchmarking and follow-up process.

The rating means Nigeria operates a stable, well-functioning regulatory system, enabling vaccine production and global trade in approved products.

NAFDAC and the Pharmacists Council remain Africa’s first to sustain ML3, with progress towards Maturity Level 4 — a key step to becoming a WHO-Listed Authority.

Prof. Adeyeye said that the recognition boosts public health, investor confidence, and Nigeria’s global standing.
