As part of activities lined up to commemorate this year’s United Nations Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has organised a roadshow to sensitise residents of Awka and its environs.
The roadshow campaign held on Thursday, June 25, brought together officials of Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigeria Security And Civil Defence Corps and NYSC Corp Members.
During the exercise which started from NDLEA Office at Udoka Estate through Unizik Junction–Zik Avenue- Eke Market back to the take off point, participants drew attention of people and preached anti drug abuse messages.
The State Commander of NDLEA, Charles Onubogu, cautioned residents of the city against drug abuse and highlighted the negative impacts on the individual, family and society at large.
“We want to create awareness and let people know the dangers of drug abuse. Today, we covered all the strategic locations in the city urging everybody to be part of the campaign.
” Parents should always monitor their children to know when they start misbehaving and manifesting signs of drug indulgence.
“Because drug abuse is not only dangerous to the people using them but also their families and society at large”
He commended the media, sister agencies and other stakeholders who turned out in their numbers for keying into the campaign and urged them to sustain the tempo in their localities
The Sector Commander, FRSC, Anambra State, Bridget Asekhauno, Nollywood Star, Bob Manuel Udokwu, admonished youths to shun drug abuse to secure their future, stressing that its negative consequences could ruin their lives.
According to Commander Asekhauno, FRSC is looking forward to more collaborative efforts in the future to strengthen the war against the social menace.
