In order to stem the tide of cultism and other nefarious activities in the State, Anambra State Police Command Special Anti-Cult Unit (SPACS) in conjunction with Puff-Adder/Kpochakpu operatives had between the first and eleventh of this May, raided various hideouts and blackspots where cultists are suspected to be hibernating in various locations within the State.
According to a releaseissued by the State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Haruna Mohammed, on the first of May, at Ogidi /Nkpor axis, 15 suspected cultists were arrested and on the second, at Awka /Amansi axis, 10 suspected cultists were arrested.
He also disclosed that on third May, at Onitsha /Nkpor axis, 7 suspected cultists were arrested, while on fourth May, at Oba/Nnewi axis , 22 suspected cultists were nabbed.
The Police Public Relations Officer further informed that on fifth May at Nsugbe/Nkwelle-Ezunaka axis , 10 suspected cultists were arrested, and on the sixth, at Ogbunike/Abagana axis , 18 suspected cultists were arrested.
Haruna Mohammed also disclosed that on the seventh of this month, at Nanka /Oko axis, 10 suspected cultists were arrested, on the eighth, at Ogidi axis, 18 suspected cultists were nabbed.
Furthermore according to police report, on nineth of this May, at Amawbia/Ekwulobia/Nanka axis, 11 suspected cultists were apprehended, and on the tenth of May, at Oba/Nkpor axis, 4 suspected cultists were nabbed.
He also disclosed that on the eleventh of this month at Oko/ Ogbunike axis, 22 suspected cultists were arrested.
The State Police Public Relations Officer maintained that from all the raids carried out, a total of 147 suspects were arrested. 55 suspects were screened out and released unconditionally, 35 suspects were charged to court, while 17 were profiled and placed under police supervision for being under aged and 40 suspects are undergoing investigation.
Meanwhile, exhibits recovered from the suspects who voluntarily confessed being members of various secret cult groups include ten locally made pistols, nine machetes, ten live cartridges, five axes, four daggers, three barrets, and one improvised gun.
Other items recovered from the suspects according to the PPRO are bundle of foil, three Vikings regalia, ten improvised bunkers and substances suspected to be Cocain/ weeds suspected to be cannabis sativa .
The Commissioner of Police, Mr John Abang, thanked “Ndi Anambra” for providing the Command with actionable intelligence and reassures the public of adequate protection.
The CP further made a clarion call on all Ndi Anambra and residents alike to report any suspicious persons or movements to the nearest Police Station or call police emergency number 07039194332 for a prompt response.
