The 21st National Sports Festival, tagged “Delta 2022” came to an end on Saturday 10th December 2022 amidst so much funfair and side attractions.
Team Anambra occupied 14th position on the general medals table with a total of 39 medals, 6 gold, 9 silver, and 24 bronze medals, surpassing it’s previous medals stand at the Edo 2020 sports festival.
Anambra State came third in the South East zone behind Abia state who came second with 10 gold, 11 silver, and 20 bronze medals totaling 41 medals, and Imo State led the South East zone with a total of 45 medals, 12 gold, 8 silver, and 25 bronze medals.
Delta State hosted and emerged overall winners of the sports festival with a total of 648 Medals, 320 Gold, 200 Silver and 128 Bronze.
While Bayelsa State came 2nd with a total of 337 medals, 132 Gold, 115 Silver and 90 Bronze, and Edo State came third with a total of 339 medals, 78 Gold, 94 Silver and 167 Bronze.
According to the sports Commission Chairman Onyedum Patrick, taking over the sports Commission in less than one month to the 21st national sports festival in Delta State, team Anambra State proved and broke their last record even with the sort time preparations, they went and represented the state well.
Onyedum thanked all the Athletes, coaches and his team in the commission for their hard work so far.
Onyedum equally thanked Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo for the support and for believing in him, and promised to work ahead of time in the coming Sports Festival for Ogun state.
Ogun State, South-West Nigeria, was announced by President Muhammadu Buhari who was represented by the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Sunday Dare, as next host of the National Sports Festival billed for 2024.
