In Enugu state, three residents have been arrested for assaulting two staff of Enugu Electricity Distribution Company EEDC who was on official duties.

This was made known by Mr Emeka Ezeh, the head , Corporate Communications EEDC on Sunday while briefing newsmen. He said that the company was against some customers who boldly engage in energy theft without paying for energy consumed.

He also said that the customers who were arrested at Ibagwa town Hall of Abakpa Nike Enugu, did not only resist disconnection but beat up the EEDC staff and also inflicted bodily harm on them.

He said that attacks on the field staff of the company were becoming a regular occurrence but said that the company would not sit back and watch this trend continue as they will make sure that perpetrators are arrested and prosecuted accordingly.

Appealing to customers to see the payment of energy bills as their obligation and the only way the power sector can be efficient and sustainable, he recounted that nonpayment of energy bills and energy theft has been a major challenge to the day to day running of the company.

He also asked aggrieved customers to use the NERC channel to register their grievances and complaints rather than take laws into their own hands.
